Building Community, Taking Action
October 5-11, 2008
Designated by the U.S. Congress in 1990, Mental Illness Awareness Week, MIAW, is NAMI’s premiere public education event. MIAW is celebrated in communities across the country during first week of October each year.
NAMI’s MIAW 2008 Tool Kit is now online and offers resources, ideas, and items to assist grassroots efforts. Included this year are items that are easy to download, personalize, and print including fact sheets, posters, and stickers. Pre-printed materials will no longer be available via the NAMI store, and leaders are directed to the Tool Kit’s materials for easy reproduction.
Celebrated during MIAW, Bipolar Disorder Awareness Day (BDAD) is set for Thursday, October 9, 2008. BDAD is designated as a special day to encourage further understanding and promote early intervention and treatment for this mental illness. BDAD materials are also available as part of the MIAW 2008 Tool Kit.
Press release templates, letters to the editor, and other media outreach materials will be added to the site in August.
Check it out and begin planning now. Join the hundreds of advocates across the country as NAMI and our partners celebrate Mental Illness Awareness Week 2008.
