BringChange2Mind and NAMIWalks
What do NAMIWalks and the award-winning actress Glenn Close have in common? Today, both work diligently to combat stigma and both are engaged in NAMIWalks.
This year, thousands of people in nearly 80 communities across the nation will walk together to raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people who live with mental illness.
Among the thousands of NAMIWalks teams, BringChange2Mind NAMIWalks teams are emerging in selected Walk sites across the country. The result of a national initiative, NAMI is proud to partner with BringChange2Mind.org, a not-for-profit organization created by Glenn Close, the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF), Fountain House and Garen and Shari Staglin of IMHRO (International Mental Health Research Organization).
BringChange2Mind was created to combat the stigma associated with mental illness via a national communications campaign. This unprecedented effort focuses on providing information to combat stigma and to offer people who live with mental illness-and those who care about them-quick, easy access to information and support.
The idea of a national anti-stigma campaign was born of a partnership between Glenn Close and Fountain House, where Glenn volunteered in order to learn about mental illness, which affects both her sister and nephew.
This is the first effort of this magnitude in U.S. history. Ron Howard generously donated his time in directing the BringChange2Mind PSA that features Glenn Close and her sister, Jessie Close. John Mayer generously donated his song, Say, which serves as an anthem for this movement.
In recognition of NAMI's partnership with this amazing anti-stigma effort, Glenn Close has produced and is promoting a NAMIWalks PSA to help spread the word.
The funds raised by BringChange2Mind NAMIWalks teams will be shared, for this team only, 50/50 with a portion of the funds earmarked to benefit their mission to combat the stigma associated with mental illness via their national communications campaign.
