219 Patient Advocacy Organizations Push For Better Access to Care

Author: Andrew Sperling - 5/18/2015

On May 15, NAMI joined as part of the “I AM (Still) ESSENTIAL” campaign to send a letter to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell urging her to conduct a review of the health plans in the Health Insurance Marketplaces and reject those that do not follow new patient protections. 219 organizations spoke in a united voice urging improved access to health care and health plan transparency. The letter also warns against unfair practices such as high patient cost-sharing and over use of prior authorization and other medical management techniques in health plans.
