Holiday Shopping that Supports NAMI

NOV. 28, 2016

By Luna Greenstein

There are endless ways to support NAMI and the mental health community—even by completing your holiday shopping! Here are some ideas for you to consider:

Look Stigmafree. Have you and your friends taken the pledge to be stigmafree? If so, you could buy them new stigmafree gear. It not only looks cute, but it also helps spread awareness and start conversations about mental health.

Feel Confident. Philosophy, a beauty brand, has been NAMI’s national partner for the past two years under their hope & grace initiative. Not only during the holidays, but all year long, 1% of all philosophy USA net sales go toward community-based mental health efforts, including NAMI.

Be Brave. Clothes, beauty products—how about jewelry? Bravelets promotes many charities by featuring jewelry collections for various causes, including mental health awareness. Bravelets offers an entire line for NAMI. For each and every item purchased, they donate $10 to NAMI.

Save Money. Looking for coupons before you buy gifts? Slickdeals, the Web's largest coupon community, offers NAMI as an option to give to with their Slickdeals Gives Back program. You can register for free and select NAMI as your designated nonprofit. Your shopping earns us a portion of the profit, and we get even more when you shop at our bonus stores: Amazon, Target and Macy's.

Have it All. For quick and easy shopping, there is always the place that has it all: Amazon! Amazon gives NAMI up to 8% of your purchase with no extra cost to you. Visit NAMI.org/Amazon for more information.

Get Creative. If you want to plan an activity with someone rather than exchange gifts—consider participating in Tumblr’s Mental Health Quilt project. This project is a collection of patches quilted together symbolizing the community banding together through difficult times. You can get crafty and make pieces of the quilt together. Once you send in your patch, Tumblr will donate a dollar for each quilt to one of four organizations, including NAMI, you get to pick from. You can submit your quilts here.

Give Back. What better gift is there than giving back? If you want to do something different this year, you can always spend gift money on giving to charity. Giving Tuesday on Nov. 29 is the perfect opportunity to join the global movement to make the world a better place. Every dollar that NAMI receives goes towards building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

We appreciate your ongoing support in whatever capacity you are able to give. And for those who give their time by volunteering with us, we want to thank you for your help in improving the lives of those who are affected by mental illness.

Happy Holidays!
