NAMI Dubuque is a grassroots organization serving individuals with mental illnesses, their families and the community, using support, education, and advocacy to eradicate the stigma and to improve the quality of life for those who have been affected by these brain disorders. NAMI meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Hillcrest Wellness Center, 225 West 6th Street, in Dubuque, at 7 pm. For more information call (563) 564-2933 or email dubuque@nami.org.

7/7/09 - Care & Share will be held on Tuesday July 7th at 7 pm at the Hillcrest Wellness Center.  Care & Share is a support group for those affected by mental illness either personally or by a loved one.  Offering a safe and confidential atmosphere, Care & Share provides a place to discuss whatever is on your mind or just listen.  This event will be hosted at the Hillcrest Wellness Center, 225 West 6th Street in Dubuque at 7 pm.  For more information call (563) 564-2933/(563) 557-7092 or email dubuque@nami.org.  This event is free and open to the public.

7/21/09 - Annual Summer Picnic  will will be held on Tuesday July 21st starting at 5:30 pm with the meal at 6 pm. The picnic will be held at Murphy Park on South Grandview in the Bennett Pavilion at the far, east end of the park. We will provide chicken and table service. Please bring a dish to pass and a beverage if possible. For more information call (563) 564-2933/(563) 557-7092 or email dubuque@nami.org.  This event is free and open to the public.

The Hillcrest Wellness Center has now opened!! An execiting new addition to the Dubuque recovery community, Hillcrest Family Services has recently opened the new Wellness Center in the United Way Building across from the NICC Downtown Campus. The Wellness Center serves adults and aging adults in recovery from mental illness, substance abuse, physical injury/illness, and persons coping with acculturation stress (veterans, persons released from prison, immigrants). The Wellness Center is open Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. For more information call 690-1239 or check out the December flyer.

Services include:

Peer Support Services – Support, Problem Solving

Wellness Activities – Walking, Yoga, Art Therapy, Nutrition Education,  Film Discussion Groups,  Spirituality Group, Craft and other Shared Interest Groups

Treatment Programs – WRAP, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, Wellness Management & Recovery and IPR

Support Groups – for Fathers, Women, Veterans, Families etc.

Vocational Offerings – in cooperation with Iowa Workforce Development

Resource Information and Referral Services

Volunteer Corps

Political Advocacy

Hillcrest Family Services announces new WRAP sessions! Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) was developed by Mary Ellen Copeland to promote personal, organizational, and community wellness and empowerment. WRAP groups will be held in both Dubuque and Maquoketa. Sessions in Dubuque will meet from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Dubuque at the Hillcrest Wellness Center in the United Way Building, 225 West 6th Street on Mondays.  In Maquoketa, WRAP sessions will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and be held in the Community Room at the Maquoketa Public Library, 126 South Second Street on Wednesday. For more information contact Carolyn Ingram, WRAP Coordinator, of Hillcrest Family Services at (563) 690-1239. WRAP sessions are free and individuals are encouraged to attend any time during the 8 week long course. Additional information is available on the WRAP flyer.

For those looking for self-empowerment support groups, Recovery Inc. meets in both Dubuque and Platteville, Wisconsin.  Meetings are held at 7:30 pm at the following two locations:
