The Campus Voice on Mental Illness

NAMI-UIUC's mission to promote awareness and reduce the stigma of mental illness on campus and in the local community. NAMI-UIUC, which stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a campus chapter of a national organization bearing the same name. At the local and campus levels, NAMI strives to imbue in its community an awareness that mental illness is not a personal flaw but an indiscrimate malady like any other medical illness. But NAMI also seeks to support those individuals who suffer from such an ailment by providing emotional and social support, and information about the steps that can be taken to cope with and even cure mental illnesses. At the state and national level, NAMI acts as a lobbying force to advocate for the rights of the mental illness. The mentally ill are often overlooked in legislation, and therefore, need the fighting support of others.
