EDUCATIONAL AND CARE/SHARE MEETINGS

All meetings will be held at St. John's Episcopal Parish House at the corner of Loras and Locust St. in Dubuque at 7:00 PM. All meetings are free and open to the public.

FAMILY TO FAMILY EDUCATION COURSE

Our next Family to Family Education Course will be held in the fall of 2013. It is a free series of classes with a class meeting weekly for twelve weeks. The course is structured to help friends and/or family members understand and support individuals with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. Please call Diane at 563-583-3179 for more information. Pre-registration is required and the class is limited to 20 persons.

PEER TO PEER EDUCATION COURSE

The next Peer to Peer Education Course will be offered in the fall of 2013. It is a free series of 10 classes that meets weekly for adults living with mental illness. The course provides an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect, understanding, encouragement and hope. For more information, call David at 563-213-8944. Pre-registration is required.

Aaron Williams RN from the Mercy Medical Center will explain the Mercy Home Care program. In this program, he is one of the nurses who helps people transition from an inpatient setting to an outpatient setting in their home environment. A Mercy Home Care nurse helps people with their medication management and serves as liaison with the patient's doctor concerning the individual's progress. The goal of the program is to maintain the individual's good mental health in a home environment. Come and learn about this valuable program.

Nancy Hale, NAMI Iowa Executive Director, will be our speaker at this educational meeting. She will explain research from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) about new medications that will provide hope for people with mental illness. She will also inspire our NAMI Dubuque affiliate with ideas on how to be more effective in the community. Everyone is welcome.

Grant Awarded!

NAMI-Dubuque is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from Mystique Casino/Dubuque Racing Association. We will be using these funds to purchase educational materials and supplies.
