State and Affiliate History:

NAMI Florida State was first incorporated as Advocates for the Mentally Ill in 1984. Then in 1987, the organization was incorporated under Florida Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and received its IRS non-profit tax status 501(c)(3) June 13, 1989. In May 1998 the corporation's name was changed to NAMI Florida, Inc.

NAMI Pasco County (formerly known as the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of West Pasco) was first incorporated in 1988.  In March of 2005 we officially became NAMI Pasco County, Florida.  On December 22, 2005 we received our 501(c)(3) IRS non profit tax status.

All local affiliates work with Florida State and NAMI National to identify and work on issues most important to their communities and states. Individual membership and the extraordinary work of hundreds of thousands of volunteer leaders is the lifeblood of NAMI's local affiliates and state organizations.   NAMI Florida currently has more than 6,000 members and 42 affiliates across the State and continues to grow.
