About NAMIH

NAMI Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization whose mission is to help families in Huntsville and surrounding areas, including members of the Redstone military community, who have one or more family members with mental illness.  We have been serving families in our community since the early 1980’s, and have helped a countless number of people learn to cope with the illness of a family member.

NAMI Huntsville provides a 12-week Family-to-Family education course to help new families learn about the mental illnesses, diagnoses, medications, and coping skills.  These totally volunteer-run and taught classes are provided twice a year to approximately twenty family members per class.

NAMI Huntsville operates an office located in the United Way building.  The office is staffed by one part-time paid staff, with the remainder of the staff being volunteers.  A large reference library on mental illness is made available to members of the community.  The office staff provide support, information (free brocuhures) and referrals to families in crisis.  A monthly newsletter keeps the community informed of activities and the latest research.

Two meetings are provided monthly; First Tuesday, 7:00pm, for support and the other; Third Tuesday, 7:00 pm, for education.  The education meeting provides information from professionals specializing in mental health, law enforcement, housing, and other topics of interest to our membership.  Meetings are held in the United Way Building in which the office is located.

For more information, contact the office at 534-2628 or namihsv@hotmail.com.
