"The Area's Voice on Mental Illness

What is NAMI Southwest Missouri?

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  NAMI Southwest Missouri is the local affiliate for NAMI in the Springfield, Missouri area.  We are a grassroots, not for profit organization dedicated to providing programs and services to those affected by mental illness.   Our Hope Center  provides support groups, education classes, referrals, a computer lab, resource area  and lending library, and laundry facilities.

We also provide a Peer Support Warm Line that is available from 10 am to 10 pm Sunday through Saturday, 365 days a year.  You can reach the Warm Line at 417-864-3027 or toll free at 1-877-535-4357.

History:

NAMI Southwest Missouri is in its 27th year of serving people with mental illness.  NAMI is committed to improving the lives of people with mental illness and serves anyone affected by these illnesses.

Severe mental illnesses are catastrophic diseases with unknown causes and cures, but treatment can be effective. They often strike young people in their most productive years and can devastate families emotionally, physically, and financially. People with mental illness deserve appropriate care; but because of stigma and discrimination, many are not able to access needed treatment, services, education, housing, and employment opportunities.

NAMI Southwest Missouri offers a wide variety of services and support and has continued to increase programs and services to meet the expanding   needs of this area. The number of support groups and activities has grown significantly to meet the increased needs.

NAMI Southwest Missouri is directed by an active Board of Directors and managed by a full time Executive Director.

Mission:

Our mission is a total commitment to improving the lives of people affected by mental illness, both persons with these brain disorders and their families. This includes providing needed programs, information, services, support, and referrals.  Also using education, community outreach, and advocacy to:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of mental illness
  • Improve access to quality care, services, treatment, and opportunities;  eradicate stigma and discrimination
  • Promote equal rights and greater research funding

NAMI Southwest Missouri is affiliated with NAMI National and NAMI Missouri,          A United Way Agency
