September Information Meeting: "Breaking the Silence"
All are welcome to attend and learn about a break-out educational
program for teens that focuses on the myths
that reinforce the silence about mental illness. Join us
on Monday, September 9, 2013, 6-7:30 pm, at the Life Link,
2325 Cerrillos Road, where author and educator Desiree Woodland
will highlight the stigma-busting curriculum "Breaking
the Silence," which is offered in middle and high schools. Included
in her presentation is a 26-minute DVD of four teens
sharing their stories about their mental illness.
In 2006, Desiree began educating students about mental illness
and early symptoms, after the suicide of her son Ryan, who
had a diagnosed mental illness. Desiree and Michele Herling, producer of "Minds Interrupted," are collaborating to bring "Breaking the Silence" to Santa Fe high schools.
Our regularly scheduled meetings are at 6 pm, on the first Monday of January, March, May, July, September, and November, at the Life Link, 2325 Cerrillos Road.
