POSH PROGRAMS NEED DONATIONS

Volunteers at Portland Oregon State Hospital run three programs to serve the patients: the Corner Store, where patients can buy small items and snacks; Birthday Bags, which are given to patients monthly; and the Clothes Closet, which gives patients clothes. Although the state does supply clothes to patients, the Clothes Closet supplies them with nice, gently used donated items. The patients love the opportunity to have something new to wear as they often wear out or outgrow their clothes. The POSH Program is in need of larger-sized clothing for both men and women, and new underwear and socks.

Birthday Bags are filled with items such as:

  • calendars
  • soaps, lotions, body wash
  • new socks
  • journals, address books, note cards
  • hats and baseball caps
  • healthy snacks
  • small stuffed animals

If you are able to donate any gently used clean clothing, new underwear and socks, or anything for the Birthday Bags, the volunteers would very gladly accept them. You can drop items off at POSH, 1121 NE 2nd Ave, or at the NAMI office. They will also be collected at the Advocates Network meetings,  the next of which is scheduled for April 29 with Judge Baldwin of the Mental Health Court

If you are interested in volunteering for the Corner Store, or the Clothes Closet, or with helping with patients (e.g., going on outings, playing games/cards, helping with activities and art projects, etc.) call 503-731-8620 for an application. For further information, contact Karen Oehler at 503-232-2559.
