WHAT IS THE ELLIS COUNTY TASK TEAM ON MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE?

 

The Ellis County Task Team is made up of individuals, organizations, law enforcement, school officials, judges, hospitals, ministers, Ellis County elected officials, physicians, attorneys, Ellis County DA staff, service providers, constables, and any one else that comes in contact with individuals with mental illness.  Its goal is to help each other find solutions to better serve those with mental illness and their loved ones.  If you have an interest feel free to come to any of our task team meetings.

Next Three Task Team Meetings-     The Ellis County Task Team meets the third Wednesdays of the month on  May 21, June 18, and July 16, 2008.

 

  1. 3rd Wednesday of the month, May 21, Midlothian Police Department, 12 noon, bring your own lunch.  Mike Halligan MS, LPC, CertPS, Executive Director of the Texas Mental Health Consumers will be our speaker.  He will speak to us on the Transformation Work Group.  It's very important that everyone that can make this important meeting because there are some very big changes that are going to take place in the Texas Mental Health System.  Police Departments, Hospitals, etc.  get ready for some very interesting changes that are being discussed and Mr. Halligan will talk to us about at this meeting.
  2. 3rd Wednesday of the month, June 18, Counseling Center of Ellis County, 6350 North I-35 E, 12 noon, bring your own lunch.  You won’t want to miss this special meeting because Dr. Nicole Cooper, MD will be our speaker for this meeting.  Dr. Cooper is a Psychiatrist and is the President of The North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians.  The web-site for the North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians www.ntspp.org  This society is developing a web-site that will help all of those that need information on mental illness.  THIS WILL BE OF GREAT HELP TO ALL OF US.
  1. 3rd Wednesday of the month, July 16, We will be working on solutions to help parents, teachers, ect. in Ellis County that have children and adolescents with mental illness.  Even if you work with adults only we need you at this important meeting to help us come up with solutions that will help parents and teachers.  Rich Cameron of Hickory Trail Hospital will talk to us for about five minutes.  Hickory Trail partnered with the Jason Foundation, a nonprofit that provides suicide awareness and prevention programming.  The Waxahachie ISD counseling staff has been trained in using the foundation's classroom materials, and the foundation's suicide prevention/awareness curriculum will be taught in 2008-09 at Waxahachie High School.
