Basics is a FREE six-week education course offered to parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents with mental health issues, including ADHD. Classes include:
Introduction: It’s not your fault – mental illnesses are brain disorders
The biology of mental illness; getting an accurate diagnosis
Treatment works – an overview of treatment options
Tools for the toolbox – communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, handling challenging behavior, relapse planning, impact on family members
Recordkeeping and the systems your child is involved in (school, juvenile justice, mental health)
Survivor stories, review, wrap-up

Family-to-Family is a FREE twelve-week education course designed to foster learning, healing and empowerment among families, friends and caregivers of individuals with mental illness. Course elements include: coping skills; handling periods of crisis and relapse; up-to-date information on medications; guidance on locating appropriate resources; and caring for the caregiver.

Peer-to-Peer is a FREE ten-week education course for persons living with mental illness that focuses on recovery while establishing and maintaining wellness. Through the combination of lecture and interactive exercises, class participants will learn about the biological bases of all major mental illness, as well as complete a Relapse Prevention Grid and Psychiatric Advance Directive. Other topics covered in the class include: Coping Strategies; Language; Emotion; Addiction; Spirituality; Sleep; Relationships; and Advocacy.

The NAMI Provider Education Program is a FREE 5-week course that presents a penetrating, subjective view of family and consumer experiences with serious mental illness to line staff at public agencies who work directly with people experiencing severe and persistent mental illnesses. The course helps providers realize the hardships that families and consumers face and appreciate the courage and persistence it takes to live with and recover from mental illness. CEUs may be available.
