Education Programs offered by NAMI - Gwinnett
Open Your Mind is a 30-60 minute power point presentation that we use as a practical tool to educate and increase awareness about the true nature of brain disorders, commonly known as mental illness. It is part of our outreach program to educate the public about brain disorders and NAMI. We have speakers that we offer to present to your club, church, business or professional appointment.
Key program topics: "Open Your Mind" is a presentation that covers issues frequently faced by those dealing with severe mental illness. The program is interactive with the audience to show that mental illness is a disease, not unlike cancer or heart disease, that is treatable. The program presents what The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is about and what the NAMI - Georgia state affiliate does to help, how the NAMI Gwinnett affiliate works to help the mentally ill and what you, too, can do to help.
Family to Family "Knowledge is Power": This is a free 12 week education course for family members, taught by NAMI-trained facilitators; it comes with a large notebook full of ways to help you understand and cope with your mentally ill loved one's disease.
