Family to Family
The NAMI Family to Family course is a free, 12-week course available to anyone who has a family member or close friend with a brain disorder (mental illness). The course is taught by trained family members.
The course is sponsored locally by NAMI Springfield and all instruction and course materials are free for class participants.
The course covers a broad range of information including:
Understanding the physical causes of mental illness A look at drugs and types of treatment currently in use Common behaviors caused by mental illness Communication skills Self care tips Fighting stigma Advocacy and involvement
The course teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively.
