What Is Family-to-Family?
NAMI Southwest Missouri offers FREE education and support to family members and caregivers of individuals with mental illnesses in the form of:
- A 12 week course for family members and caregivers of individuals with mental illnesses.
- Monthly and Bi-Monthly support groups in Springfield and surrounding areas.

The Family-to-Family curriculum focuses on schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder (manic depression), clinical depression, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders. The course discusses the clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively.
All instruction and course materials are free for class participants. Classes are taught in the Spring and Fall throughout the Southwest Missouri area by trained NAMI volunteers. NAMI Southwest Missouri has on-going support groups for family members in Springfield , Branson, and Marshfield. Many participants are Family-to-Family graduates. But you do not have to attend a Family-to-Family class to become part of a support group. Many family members go to a support group first and then decide to take the class.
