Family to Family is an Education Program  for family members of close relative with

Major Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder

Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, Co-occurring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorders

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a 12-week series of classes designed specifically for family members and close friends of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness.  A new series is scheduled to begin Sunday evening January 31, 2010. There is no cost to participants.

The course covers information about schizophrenia, the mood disorders (bipolar disorder and major depression), panic disorder obsessive compulsive disorder and PTSD. Keep in mind that the course is not appropriate for individuals who, themselves, suffer from one of the major mental illnesses. The course also addresses coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse, basic in-formation about medications, listening and communication techniques, problem-solving skills, recovery and rehabilitation, and self-care around worry and stress.

The curriculum has been written by an experienced professional, and the course will be taught by NAMI-Johnson County family member volunteers June Judge and Marva Abel, who have taken intensive training as course instructors.
