Mark is the son of Kurt Vonnegut, has been chosen as Boston's number one pediatrician, and has a diagnosis of bipolar. Ms. Foster stated, "There are many people out there who have the capacity to understand depression and mental illness. We can't give up on one another. We are not alone in this experience and in this life...at the end of the day, we have each other." NAMI FDL is an affiliate of NAMI Georgia and NAMI National. What is NAMI? National Alliance on Mental Illness is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization. Founded in 1979, NAMI has become the nation's voice on mental illness. It has grown into a national organization which includes affiliates in every state and in more than 1100 local communities across the country. NAMI's mission is to improve the lives of those living with mental illness as well as their families, friends and mentors through

Of critical importance right now is fighting the social stigma of mental illness, connecting local available resources, and working one on one with families caught in the circle of not knowing where to go or what to do. Members of our affiliate are here to help on the local level. We invite you to join us and in time help others.
While working through difficult times, we can find strength in the words of M. Scott Peck: "The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers." NAMI FDL hopes to be a part of that search.
