Fight stigma and raise awareness through poetry, essay or visual art.  Inkwell, NAMI Howard County's Creative Journal is published on our website twice a year.  Submissions for the journal should focus on issues related to mental health, such as the trials and triumphs in recovery, stigma, resiliency, acceptance, relationship issues or the people and moments in your life that encourage hope.

 Submission Guidelines:

Prose: (includes essays) should be double spaced and not exceed 5,000 words

Poetry: submissions are limited to 6 poems

All written submissions should be sent via attachment to info.namihc@gmail.com accompanied by a short biographical statement. Type “Inkwell Submission” in the subject box. Please include: your name, mailing address, day time phone number and email address. Authors will be notified if a submission will be published. Financial compensation is not available.

Visual Art:  All art media are considered. Visual art submissions may be mailed or sent electronically. Electronic submissions should be sent via a zip attachment to info.namihc@gmail.com.

Mailed submissions should be 5 "x 7" or 8 "x 10" photographs or on CD and sent to NAMI Howard County, Inkwell Journal, 9151 Rumsey Rd., Columbia MD, 21045. Include self addressed return packing if you would like your submission returned. NAMI Howard County assumes no responsibility for submissions received without adequate return postage, packaging, or proper identification labels.  Please label everything with your name, titles, media, dimensions, and date. Please do not write on photos. Attach all necessary information on a label.

Be sure to include a short biographical statement with your name, mailing address, day time phone number and email address. Artists will be notified if a submission will be published. Financial compensation is not available.

BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT GUIDELINES

Include a brief (50 word or less) biographical statement with your work. Your statement may reflect your interest in mental illness, (i.e., living with a mental illness, family member, health care provider, friend, faith leader, etc.) where you live, age, occupation, education, hobbies, aspirations and publications.

 A separate brief statement about your artwork may also be included.

Submissions are accepted year round.
