Membership

All meetings are free and open to the public.  You need not be a member to attend meetings, although membership confers a number of benefits.  We do encourage regular attendees to pay dues to NAMI if possible.

You can click here to join online or contact an affiliate officer for a membership application form.  Joining NAMI as a dues-paying member entitles you not only to voting rights, but also to the national journal, the state newsletter, the local newsletter, access to special informational resources, discounted rates on conference fees and publications, eligibility for scholarships, and the like.  Regular annual membership is $32, but for those for whom this presents a financial hardship, there is a low-cost, full-benefit membership available for only $3.  One third of NAMI Douglas County members' dues go to NAMI National, one third go to NAMI Kansas, and one third are returned directly to our affiliate, providing an important part of our education and outreach budget.

Our current formal membership is about 50 households. National statistics suggest that one in five families is affected by a serious mental illness. If there are 20,000 families in Douglas County (a modest estimate), then perhaps there are as many as 4,000 that could benefit from our education and support programs. Is your family one of these?
