The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Ombudsman Program is designed to advocate for the rights of individuals with mental illness and substance abuse and their families, to improve their quality of life.   The Mental Health Ombudsman program began in 2003 and is the result of the Chris S. Stipulated Settlement Agreement with the State of Wyoming. In late 2008 the scope of the program was extended to include substance abuse.

The Ombudsman provides the following services:

• investigate and attempt to resolve reported complaints.
• provide information and coaching where the individual is provided information and assistance to advocate for themselves.
• referral.
• identify gaps in services for individuals with mental illness or substance abuse, and advocate for improvements.

The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Ombudsman Program functions independently and is not subjected to undue influences by any party in the completion of its duties.  Therefore, feel free to contact the Ombudsman if you have:

• a need for information concerning services for people with mental illness or substance abuse.
• a concern or complaint about services.
• a question about rights.
• a grievance.
• difficulty accessing appropriate services.
• an idea for making services better.
