MENTAL HEALTH & CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING OFFERINGS

Mental Illness & Juveniles – Thursday, June 10, 2010
This brand-new training is designed for the professional in the criminal justice field who works with youth. Topics addressed in the training include Categories of Mental Illness & Adolescents, Effective Communication Techniques, Working with Youth with a Mental Illness & How to Access Immediate Treatment, and Available Resources.

This educational day is offered twice per year and is targeted toward law enforcement, attorneys, judges, correctional officers, probation/parole officers, and community leaders. Topics addressed during the training include Categories of Mental Illness, Biological Basis of Mental Illness, and Active Listening & Tools for Crisis Situations. In addition, there are two In Our Own Voice presentations.
Mental Illness #201 – October 2010 (date TBA)
This training is geared toward those professionals in the criminal justice field who have completed the #101 training and want to gain more knowledge and skills. The various topics included in the day’s agenda include treatment of mental illness, suicide information, interacting with those with mental illness and a special section on self-care while engaged in a highly-stressful career. In addition, there will be two In Our Own Voice presentations.
Accreditation by ILEA (Indiana Law Enforcement Academy), CEU credits for social workers and family therapists, and CLE credits for attorneys may be available for all trainings, pending approval.
Note: these trainings are located in Small Auditorium at Larue Carter Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis.
“If I Am the Last Resort, Where Do I Turn for Support?”
First responders often find themselves at a loss when they or their co-workers need support. This course addresses panic attacks, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and thoughts of suicide that many in law enforcement have faced. It demonstrates how you are not alone in past experiences, how some of your actions and emotions may be a result of past encounters, and where you might turn for personal support.
Note: this class has been approved for three hours of accreditation by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA).

Minimum number for group training in 12 and maximum number is 75. Flat fee cost for a three-hour group training within the central Indiana region is $300.
