NAMIWALKS
Millions of Americans, involving an estimated one in four families, are living with a mental illness. Most NAMI members are either a consumer or family member whose life is personally touched by a severe brain disorder such as:
Schizophrenia and other schizophrenia spectrum disorders
Bipolar disorder
Major depression disorder
Severe anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder
NAMIWALKS is a fundraising effort used to underwrite programs of support, education, advocacy, and the encouragement of research involving mental illnesses. The WALK is also way to make a statement, loud and clear, that mental illnesses are brain disorders and that stigma related to these diseases should be erased. Currently, far too many individuals suffering from these disorders are locked up in jails, live in the street, or are without access to health services that would make their lives manageable.
Come Walk with us in solidarity to help eliminate stigma and to announce to the public that the means to address these afflictions needs improvement.
