1.  NAMI Family to Family class

What it is: a free, 12-week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe mental illnesses.

December

1. Family Support Group Training

    What it is: (preferably two or more) family members living with a mental illness who wish to learn how to facilitate a NAMI support group for family members living with a person with mental illness

    Who can train: The persons to be trained must be family members or primary caregivers of a loved one with a mental illness. 

    Application process: Interested persons must fill out an application form (see bottom of page to download this application), application may be e-mailed to smcdermott@nami.org or FAXed to 501-312-7540 or call Stephen McDermott at 800-844-0381

    Date: December 4-6th

    Location: Marriott Courtyard West in Little Rock

2. NAMI Family to Family Class

March

1. NAMI Basics Teacher Training

NAMI Basics is a 15 hour education program taught by two co-leaders for caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. The NAMI Basics Teacher Training is for those who want to teach theis NAMI signature class to other caregivers. Teacher  trainee applicants meet the followig criteria:

  • they are primary caregivers of an individual who began experiencing symptoms prior to the age of 13
  • they are at a point where they are comfortable with the emotional issues families face and can self-disclose their own feelings of guilt, anger, shame, ambivalence and grief regarding their life situation
  • they are willing to participate in an intensive weekend training on how to co-teach the curriculum
  • they are willing to make the commitment to participants in the course, the co-leader and to the NAMI organization to complete the 15-hour course once it begins
