NAMI Greater Milwaukee is a community-based, self-help, support, education and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with mental illness, their families and those touched by mental illness.

There will be no NAMI Connection Meeting on Saturday, May 18th 2013, as everyone will be at the NAMI Walk (see below for details).
It's not too early to start preparing for the 2013 NAMI Walks for the Mind of America! This year's Walk will be on Saturday, May 18th, 2013, and begins at 11:00am. there will be ample opportunity to register; all Walkers have to register prior to the event (at the Kick-off Luncheon, by visiting the NAMI website or by filling out Registration forms), or if you haven't registered by Walk Day, you may do so at the Walk site starting at 9:30am.

You can print copies & mail/bring them to our office, or fill one out, save to your computer, attach it to an email and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a weekly support group for people living with mental illness in which people learn from each other's experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding. There is no need to register for the group.
It will take place every Saturday from 10am-11:30am here at the NAMI office.
Meets weekly for 90 minutes
Is offered free of charge
Follows a flexible structure without an educational format
Does not recommend or endorse any medications or other medical therapies
All groups are confidential - participants can share as much or as little personal information as they wish.
Meetings will be guided by NAMI Connection’s Principles of Support.
NAMI Connection is supported by AstraZeneca.
Monthly Education Meeting
NAMI GREATER MILWAUKEE MONTHLY EDUCATION MEETING
We have a Guest Speaker the last Monday of every month (except November & December) who will discuss a different topic of interest concerning mental health. The meeting takes place at the NAMI Greater Milwaukee office, 3732 W. Wisconsin Ave. Entrance off the parking lot (in rear).

Monday, May 20th 2013 from 6:30pm-8:00pm PLEASE NOTE: The last Monday of May is Memorial Day, so the Monthly Education Meeting has been moved up one week.

A new class is beginning on Tuesday, June 4th and will take place every Tuesday & Thursday (except for the Independence Day holiday) until July 16th. Classes are from 6:00pm until 8:30pm.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan
We will provide the materials needed to help you begin to develop your personal action plan. Group discussion will be facilitated by Serge Blasberg, State Certified Peer Specialist, trained in developing WRAP plans, and Bilingual co-facilitator Jeanette Arellano. Recovery is attained through hard work, self awareness and knowledge. Come join us as we support one another in our pursuit of living productive, healthy and socially satisfying lives. This group is FREE, and works best when completing the full four weeks.

This group also provides the opportunity to teach individuals to help others develop their own WRAP plans. While this is not a formal "train the trainer", we will try to help you develop the skills needed to effectively work with others.

Peer-to-Peer is a unique, experiential learning program for people with any mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. Peer-to-Peer consists of ten 2-hour units and is taught by two NAMI-trained "Mentors" and one Volunteer who are personally experienced at living well with mental illness.

"Pieces - In My Own Voice"
NAMI's own Education and Outreach Coordinator, Brenda Wesley, has written and produced a Play; It is titled "Pieces, In My Own Voice", and it's a thought-provoking theatrical production depicting the lives of People Living With A Mental Health Diagnosis. To date, over 3,000 people have seen it and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

The class begins on (To Be Announced) and is scheduled to run for 12 weeks.

NAMI Basics is taught by trained parents who have lived similar experiences with their own children. NAMI Basics is an educational program that provides learning and practical insights designed specifically for parents and primary caregivers of children or adolescents living with a mental illness.
This FREE 6 week Course curriculum includes:
- The trauma of mental illness for the child and the family
- The biology of mental illness: getting an accurate diagnosis
- The latest research on the medical aspects of the illness and advances in treatment
- An overview of treatment options – treatment works
- The impact of a child’s mental illness on the rest of the family – caregivers and siblings
- An overview of the systems involved in caring for children and teens
