NAMI NW WALK 2010

The 2009 NAMI Walk was a 2.8-mile walking event for all people who are dedicated to improving the lives of all of those affected by serious mental illness.  This fundraising event was held in 65+ communities around the country in May 2009.

Our small corp of dedicated volunteers busily continues to provide vitally needed support groups for family and peers, as well as Family-to-Family classes, Peer-to-Peer classes and In Our Own Voice Presentation, and continues to expand our innovative program of outreach directly within the hospitals, helping inpatients make plans to succeed in the community through participation in NAMI peer support groups like the Nationally recognized NAMI Connections program.
While all this activity continues, NAMI Multnomah must also sign our teams for NAMI Walk 2010, as the Walk funds our growing programs, more in need than ever.

You may start building your teams, and join the NAMI Walk Committee, for what we hope will be our biggest walk ever!

It's a great time to make a generous and meaningful difference! Call NAMI Multnomah (503) 228-5692 or email nami.multnomah@qwestoffice.net for information on how to become a recognized NAMI Walk Sponsor or sponsor NAMI Multnomah's Resource Guide!

NAMI RAP

Written by our youngest Team Captain, Azariah Guillen (11)

who was inspired by Ashley Brenton's story at the Walk luncheon.

On your mark ready set, let's GO!
I'm a teenage Captain you know that's true,
so stop being blue and come join the crew.

We're all gonna wear some big time blue,
We’ll be walking, we’ll be talking having fun in the sun.

So, come on to NAMI and bring ya mommi,
Because it’s time to fight together,
to stop the stigma on MI forever.

What’s MI you don’t even know?
it turns all your friends to an unknown foe.
Mental Illness is not a game,
It doesn’t even have a whole lot of fame.

People have depression THINK their life is full of shame,
They shouldn’t blame themselves cuz they got game!

When their walking, people staring always tearing what their bearing
They don’t even see having MI is not who they wanna be
but it’s another life they have to be.

So, some on everyone to the NAMI-Walk,
and join the fun out in the sun
On May 17th, 2009
don’t be late get there right on time!

SEE YA!
