NAMI Hamilton County is now offering a new and exciting program!

In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is a unique public education program developed by NAMI, in which two trained consumer speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.

Throughout the IOOV presentation, audience members are encouraged to offer feedback and ask questions. Audience participation is an important aspect of IOOV because the more audience members become involved, the closer they come to understanding what it is like to live with a mental illness and stay in recovery.

All presentations are offered free of charge.

Mental illness, an often isolating illness, affects one in five people.  It affects persons of any age, race, religion or socioeconomic status.  It affects the entire family.  Mental illnesses are biological brain disorders and can disrupt a person’s thinking, feelings, mood, ability to relate to others, and daily functioning.  Mental illnesses are treatable medical conditions.  Thanks to research and medical advances in medications and treatment, recovery is possible. Many people feel isolated by mental illness due to the stigma and misinformation surrounding it.  If your life has been touched by mental illness, you are not alone.

NAMI of Hamilton County is a grass-roots education, support and advocacy organization founded in 1979. We offer educational programs, support groups and an information and referral phone line. We work together with our national organization NAMI and our state affiliate NAMI Ohio. The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Hamilton County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under federal tax guidelines.
