Volunteer Opportunities

Family to Family Instructors:

NAMI-SCC is looking for NAMI Family to Family graduates who are interested in helping people just like them – parents, spouses, children, siblings, and friends who seek to understand and help a loved one who has a mental illness.

All Family to Family graduates are encouraged to apply for instructor training, even if they have never taught before. To learn how you can help others by becoming a volunteer F2F instructor, please contact Joanne at 831.427.8020.

Helping Teachers Understand Serious Mental Illness

The Parents and Teachers as Allies program is looking for adults who would like to be trained as presenters of this NAMI program for teachers. Qualified individuals include:

  • Adults who experienced mental illness while still in school (elementary school, high school, or college).
  • A parent whose child experienced mental illness while still in school.
  • Individuals who are both a teacher and a parent of someone who experienced mental illness while still in school. These individuals are especially needed.

If you are interested in helping with this program, please contact Carol Williamson at 229-2675 for information.

NAMI Peer Connection Recovery Support group faciliation

Individuals who are living with a mental illness and are interested in becoming trained to facilitate the NAMI Connection support group can call Carol at 229-2675. Graduates of the NAMI Peer to Peer class are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity.
A two day training is planned for January 19,2013, in Santa Cruz.
