ImageBecause of the variety of health insurance offered in the community, we cannot cover all forms of health insurance here.  A good site for information about health insurance in general is the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.

Wisconsin has a Health Insurance Risk Sharing Plan (HIRSP) for people who are unable to purchase insurance because of their preexisting conditions or who have lost their employment-related insurance.  See their website for whether you qualify.

Social Security recipients qualify for Medicare after a waiting period.  According to their site,:

If you are under 65, you can get Part A without having to pay premiums if:

You have received Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefit for 24 months.
You are a kidney dialysis or kidney transplant patient.

When you become eligible for Part A, you can purchase Part B as well.

Many mentally ill people qualify for Medicaid or BadgerCare.  Those who receive SSI automatically qualify.
