Education Programs
Family-to-Family
The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a free 12-week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illnesses). The course is taught by trained family members. All instruction and course materials are free for class participants. If you have questions like "What do I do if there is a Crisis?", "What are all of these medications for?", "How can I and my relative/friend communicate better?" this is the class for you!
For information call Gloria Strother at (727) 992-9653
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)
CIT is designed to educate and prepare police officers who come into contact with people with severe mental illnesses to recognize the signs and symptoms of these illnesses, and to respond effectively and appropriately to people who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis. Police officers are often the first responders in these incidents, it is essential that they know how critical periods of mental illness alter behaviors and perceptions, can assess what is needed in the moment, and can bring understanding and compassion to bear when they are handling these difficult situations.
NAMI Basics Education Program
The fundamentals of caring for you, your family and your child with mental illness. NAMI Basics is the new signature education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. The program was developed around elements that have been extensively tested and found to be highly effective in the field (click here for more information).
