Peer Education and Support Programs
NAMI-Metropolitan Baltimore offers a number of free educational programs and support groups for persons with mental illness and their relatives. Educational programs (Family to Family, Peer to Peer) take place in the fall and in the spring. You must call the office to sign up for these programs-- space is limited.
Support Groups are year-round. They occur every month and run on a drop-in basis. Trained consumers and family members run both our educational programs and our support groups. For more information call (410) 435-2600 or e-mail namimetrobaltimore@yahoo.com. Also, feel free to print out the attached fliers about the programs.

The Peer to Peer course was piloted for National NAMI here in Baltimore. Three courses have successfully been completed and many individuals express interest in taking the course! This course offers consumers (of mental health services) 9 connected sessions covering various topics relating to recovery from mental illness. Trained members, "peer mentors," who are also consumers, present the course through lecture and interactive participation. The course meets for 2 hours once a week for 9 weeks. Please call our office so you can be added to our mailing list. If added, you will receive a notice of the next course.
Family Peer Support Groups
We currently have 5 active family peer support groups. These support groups are designed for relatives or primary caregivers of persons with a mental illness. All of our current groups meet on weeknights. Participants share common concerns and experiences with other family members who have been through similar challenges. We ask that you call the office before you attend your first support group meeting. You are welcome to attend more than one group. See attached flier at the bottom of page for specific locations and times of meetings.
Consumer Peer Support Groups
Groups, for persons coping with mental illness, currently meet every Saturday morning. By providing cross-diagnosis support groups, these groups offer a support system for individuals living with a wide variety of disorders with common concerns and challenges. Participants share life experiences, treatment options, and thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.
We ask that you call the office before you attend your first support group meeting. See attached flier at the bottom of the page for specific locations and times of meetings.
