The Holidays have come and gone! Everyone views this time of year differently. Some buy into the chaos and stress while others try to relax and just enjoy the spirituality of the season.

Whatever approach you take is fine. One thing is for certain, the holidays do not go away! I hope you use this time to enjoy and celebrate with your families…

Speaking of celebrating...

At NAMI Pinellas, we have done quite a bit of it this Fall. First, our Annual Picnic at Seminole Lake Park was a blast! It was more than a picnic; it was a true Fall Festival. It was great to see so many people their celebrating NAMI and recovery together. I cannot thank our picnic committee enough for the outstanding job on this event--led by Jeannie Fisherkeller, Shari Clark, Judy Turnbaugh, Anne and John Jones, Gay Hawk and Chris VanDeusen--all deserve a round of applause. Once again, Elliott Steele and club members from Vincent House stepped up to make the day perfect. My wife had so much fun she suggested we have this event monthly!

In November, we also celebrated our Military Veterans. At our monthly Education Meeting, we had an excellent panel. Thank you to Shari Clark, Dr. Alina Gonzalez Mayo, Bernadette Ackerman, and Larry White all from BayPines VA, as well as Rick Elkins from the Homeless Emergency Project, and Dr. Eric Carver from St. Petersburg College Veterans Services.

In December, we hosted our annual Holiday Reception and celebrated together with great food from Banquet Masters and Jeanne Fisherkeller; wonderful sounds of the season from Rick Elkins and his wife Trish; and lots of special gifts to consumers, thanks to Paul Ziegler of BB&T, the Suncoast Human Resources Managers and Shelly Ballard and her “elves”!

I know our economy is bad and issues such as healthcare are pressing upon us daily. However, we certainly live in the best country in the world. We owe our freedom to the men and women from our armed forces. Please, during this Holiday Season, take some extra time to reflect and say a prayer for all those who serve our country. Until Next Time, Peace and all that is good! Brian
