FAMILY-TO-FAMILY EDUCATION

This is a 12 week series of classes for  both families of birth and families of choice, as well as friends and caregivers of persons with brain disorders (mental illnesses). These classes are small and provide an opportunity  for learning and bonding with others. The teachers are family members themselves. The course was written by a family member who is also a mental health professional. The course combines self-care, education, and personal empowerment. Each participant ends the class with the tools to become an advocate. Courses are held periodically, and our office maintains a waiting list. “FAMILY-TO-FAMILY” COURSE IN SEBASTOPOL

The NAMI Family to Family Program is a free, 12-week course taught by trained family members for family/friend caregivers of individuals with  mental illnesses.  All instruction and course materials are free to class participants.  Over 115,000 family members have graduated.

Mental illnesses and treatments; Research on brain disorders; Strategies for handling crises and relapse; Communication techniques; Coping with stress, worry and emotional overload; Community resources and how to find help.

Dates:                      Saturdays from Mar 28 – Jun 13, 2009

PEER-TO-PEER EDUCATION

NAMI CA Description of Peer-to-Peer

Peer-To-Peer is a 9 week series of classes that help consumers/clients along the path to recovery. People who attend report a greater understanding of their diagnosis, and a bond with others in the class. The classes are small, and are a safe place to share and learn. The emphasis is on relapse prevention and psycho-social supports. The ultimate goal is for recovery and self-advocacy. PARENTS AND TEACHERS AS ALLIES EDUCATION

This two-hour in-service program helps school professionals identify the early warning signs of early-onset mental illnesses in children and adolescents in schools. It focuses on the specific, age-related symptoms of mental illnesses in youth, how best to intervene, and shared the lived experiences of consumers and families.160; For  information and to be placed on a waiting list, please call 707.527.6655.

IN OUR OWN VOICE

A CONSUMER SPEAKERS BUREAU

A recovery-education program presented by trained consumer presenters/facilitators to other consumers, families, friends and professionals.  It is for anyone who needs to know how people with  mental illnesses cope with the realities of their disorder, while recovering and reclaiming productive lives with meaning and dignity. Each presentation is a stand-alone event, and lasts from one to one and a half hours. NAMI CONNECTION SUPPORT GROUP

Consumers Advocating Recovery Through Empowerment is a peer-based mutual support group for people facing mental health challenges. Led BY consumers, FOR consumers. A weekly, drop-in group held at 1717 Yulupa Ave, Santa Rosa in our classroom, room number 7.

FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS

CITY OF SANTA ROSA NAMI FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

This group meets on a weekly, drop-in basis to provide mutual support by trained facilitators who are family members themselves.Thursdays at 2-3:30 PM, and every 2nd and 4th Wednesday 6:00-7:30pm. Groups meet at our office at 1717 Yulupa Ave, in Santa Rosa.

CITY OF PETALUMA NAMI FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP
 
A resource for families who have a loved one living with severe and persistent mental illness. The group meets the first and third Thursday of each month, from 6:00-7:30PM at 109 C Street (Corner of C and 1st Street), downtown Petaluma. For more information, please call 707.410.7114.
 
CITY OF SONOMA NAMI SUPPORT GROUP

ART GROUP

EVERY TUESDAY!!!!

NAMI's weekly art class gives people with mental health challenges an outlet for their innate creative selves, as well as an opportunity to exhibit their art. Artist-in-residence, Dyana Foldvary, facilitates each class, Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at our office classroom, 1717 Yulupa Ave in Santa Rosa. Drop-ins are welcome.
