Our educational meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every other month at 7:30 PM, except when it conflicts with major holidays.   Enter through the Stannage door and join us in the multipurpose room at the end of the hallway.   There is always a brief business meeting prior to the presentation.   Light refreshments will be served.  Attendees are invited to visit our office upstairs where there are 1-pamphlets and brochures to take, 2-books, videos and DVDs to check out and 3-NARSAD cards to buy.  Meeting is free.

FLOYD BROWN, MD

Psychiatrist, Bonita House

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Substance abuse is often an unfortunate accompaniement to mental illness, sometimes representing an individual's attempts to self-medicate.  Standard treatments have been unsuccessful and new theories of intervention involve an integrative model.  Bonita House, located in Berkeley, has long been noted as an exemplary model of the best practices.  We are so pleased to have Dr. Floyd Brown, longtime program psychiatrist, join us at our July general meeting.  He will be sharing about the programs at Bonita House and bring us up to date about current thinking in this arena, including issues around medications.   There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions from our local expert.  Join us.

NAMI CONVERSATION WITH PSYCHIATRIST

Dr.  Robert Dolgoff in conversation with NAMI EastBay President

(This video presentation, shown on July 27, 2011, is available for viewing on

http://www.vimeo.com/25930344)

Dr. Robert Dolgoff is the Medical Director of Alta Bates Sutter Medical Center Mental Health Services (aka Herrick Psychiatric Department).  He has been in this position for some time and is a highly respected and experienced psychiatrist in the local mental health community.  As part of an ongoing educational video series produced at Herrick, the opportunity recently arose for Liz Rebensdorf, President of NAMI EastBay, to sit down with Dr. Dolgoff and talk about mental illness.  What resulted is an informative  and generally comprehensive Mental Illness 101 overview  - with the addition of Liz's questions posed to Dr. Dolgoff on behalf of family concerns raised in support groups, phone calls and Family to Family classes.

Thanks to Cynthia Kane-Hyman, producer, and Barry Swank, cinematographer, for putting this together at Herrick.
