NAMI VIRGINIA PROGRAMS


Family-to-Family Education Program

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a free 12-week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illnesses). The course is taught by trained family members. All instruction and course materials are free for class participants.

In Our Own Voice

In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is a unique public education program developed by NAMI, in which two trained consumer speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.

Peer-to-Peer

Peer-to-Peer is a unique, experiential learning program for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery.

Family Support Group

Family Support Group is a free weekly, group for family and friends of indivduals with mental illness.  The group is facilitated by family member peers who provide support and hope through a collective group exchange.

Connection Recovery Support Groups

Connection is a weekly recovery support group for people living with mental illness in which people learn from each others’ experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding.

Basics

Basics is a educational program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness.  The course is six weeks longs and covers a variety of helpful topics.

MESA Family Workshops

The MESA (Mutual Education Support and Advocacy) Family Workshops are a series of classes for parents, siblings, spouses and adult children of individuals with mental illness. A major goal is to reduce stress in the lives of families through education on mental illness, coping strategies and community resources and through the support which develops among participants.

Support Advocacy Efforts for People with Mental Illness and their Family Members

NAMI Virginia affiliates across the state facilitate or sponsor many different types of support groups for people with mental illness and their loved ones.

Visions for Tomorrow

Visions for Tomorrow consists of a series of workshops for direct primary caregivers of children and adolescents with brain disorders. Teachers of the program are trained family members who have experienced firsthand the rewards and challenges of raising children with brain disorders. The course offers caregivers an opportunity to share mutual experiences and learn valuable lessons from one another. The program covers educational material and provides the basics for day-to-day care giving skills.


Suicide Prevention

NAMI Virginia works to educate the public about suicide prevention, including warning signs, causes, and where to go for help. Click here for more information from NAMI about suicide prevention.
