We are looking first-degree relatives of people with Schizophrenia. You can help us figure out how the brain works and grows, and you can even get a picture of your brain. Does Your Child have a Brother, Sister, Mother, or Father with Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder?


There is a research study at UNC that is looking at how the brain grows and develops in 9 to 18 year old children.  We use state-of-the-art brain imaging and other safe, routine procedures, and your child can even get a picture of his or her brain!
 
Compensation for the study is up to $250 a child.

Join a new MEDITATION workshop as part of a research study
EARN UP TO $105.00 AND PARTICIPATE IN A FREE MEDITATION WORKSHOP

If you:

Have trouble looking forward to things and/or enjoying things
Have no previous experience with meditation
Are between the ages of 18 and 60
Have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder

then you may be eligible to participate in a study of the effects of meditation on symptoms of schizophrenia. The Meditation workshop will meet for 6 weekly, one-hour sessions. The workshop will be offered to you free-of-charge.

All participants can be paid up to $105 to complete four assessments, which involve interviews about your attitudes towards life, symptoms, and emotions. Each of these assessments will take about 2 hours. The assessments will be done prior to, following, and approximately 3 months after the workshop.

RESEARCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
EARN UP TO $200.00 & THE CHANCE OF GETTING FREE THERAPY

If you:

Have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder
Would like to improve your social relationships
Are between the ages of 18 and 65

then you may be eligible to participate in a study of Social Cognition and Interaction Training (SCIT). SCIT is a group psychotherapy that teaches strategies for getting along with other people and improving the social lives of persons with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

Half of the participants in this study will receive 20 sessions of SCIT group therapy over a five-month period and their usual treatment services. SCIT will be provided to you free of charge.

Half of the participants will receive their usual treatment services.

All participants can be paid up to $200 to complete three assessments. These will involve evaluations of symptoms, cognitive and social functioning. Each of these assessments will take about 3 hours. The assessments will be done approximately 4-5 months apart.

RECOVERY NARRATIVE PROJECT

The UNC Division of Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology needs volunteers for it's Recovery Narrative Project. The project students are assigned involves listening to and recording personal narratives from the perspective of a person with a psychiatric disability in recovery and his/her family about living with their psychiatric condition, on which they must develop a written report for the class. Confidentiality is offered and students will provide an informed consent form to the person's approval and they will use psuedonyms in their papers. The narratives are only shared with the instructor. There is no public presentation or dissemination of the narratives, ensuring privacy of the person or family identity. UNC/DUKE RESEARCH STUDY ON MONEY MANAGEMENT

You may be eligible to take part in a study about mental health and money management, which aims to teach people to save more money and make a better budget.

The study includes a 1 – 1 ½ hour interview for which you’ll be paid $25.

You may have a second interview in which you’ll be paid $25 ($50 total) and meet with a study staff member to help teach you how to save money and make a better budget.

COUPLE-BASED TREATMENT FOR ANOREXIA NERVOSA

The University of North Carolina's Eating Disorders Program is developing a treatment for couples where one partner has anorexia nervosa. Participants will receive study-related treatment from the UNC Eating Disorders Program team at no cost and payment for participating in additional assessments. If you are 18 years or older and are married or have been in a committed relationship with your partner for over a year and currently live together, you may be eligible.
