Information and Referral 1-800-464-5767

Help is available to anyone with a question, concern, or problem connected with mental health or co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.  We staff our help line between 8am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.  We will help you navigate the system, understand your rights, figure out where to get the help you need or who to talk to, find a service in Maine or out, get information about a law, a program, or a policy….you ask, we will either advise you immediately or do some research and get back to you.

The Information Helpline offers:

  • Information.  We provide general (non-professional) information on illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression; issues affecting children, adolescents & young families; general questions about medication; NAMI programs (such as Family-to-Family and In Our Own Voice); NAMI policy positions (such as mental health parity) … and a whole lot more!

  • Referrals.  Callers are referred to local affiliates and support groups throughout the state and to other organizations serving the needs of those affected by serious mental illness.

  • Support.  Trained volunteers - consumers and family members - are in a unique position to offer support and empathy from people who know what it's like and who have "been there."
