Resources

Family Resource Guide

NAMI Northern Illinois has compiled an excellent resource manual called the Family Resource Guide. We want you to know that if someone in your family or someone you are close to has a mental illness, you are not alone. Members of NAMI have learned the hard way about mental illness and services available. We have complied information in this manual that would have been useful to us at the beginning, in hope that it will be helpful to you now, as you find ways to understand and cope with the person in your life who has a mental illness.

Included in this manual are chapters on:

  1. I. Introduction
  2. Major Mental Illnesses
  3. Mental Illness and the Family
  4. Individuals Living with Mental Illness in our Community
  5. Financial Considerations
  6. Working with the System: How to Get the Help You Need

NAMI Northern Illinois Library

NAMI Northern Illinois also maintains a small library of books, videos and DVDs on the mental illnesses and stories of those who have a mental illness or know of someone who does. Books, videos and DVDs can be checked out by asking to use the library at our monthly meetings.
