In Our Own Voice

“In Our Own Voice” is a presentation that enriches an audiences’ understanding of how over 58 million Americans who have a mental illness cope, while also reclaiming rich and meaningful lives.  An In Our Own Voice speaker will share a personal testimony of living with and overcoming the challenges posed by mental illness and help the audiences expand their understanding of what it’s like to experience a psychiatric illness.

In Our Own Voice presentations are given to schools, faith communities, hospitals, out-patient and in-patient facilities, government agencies, private corporations and other venues.  Training is required.  The speaker must be comfortable speaking in front of audiences that range from 5 – 100 people and answering questions posed by the audience.   The dates, times, and locations of the presentations vary from month to month.  A small stipend is provided for each speaking engagement.

If you are interested in becoming an In Our Own Voice speaker, please contact Alikah Hawks at 410 772-9300 or email ahawks.namihc@gmail.com
