ANNUAL NAMI LINN COUNTY PICNIC

Our annual picnic was held on September 16, 2009 at Bever Park.  It was a beautiful fall day, and about 45 individuals enjoyed the outdoors and reflected on another year of NAMI Linn County accomplishments.  Members, family members, consumers and the board of directors celebrated the evening with a picnic and music provided by Billy Davis and Mark Pence.

NAMI Linn County also reflected on the past year by acknowledging a community mental health care provider who demonstrated outstanding commitment to the recovery efforts of the Flood of 2008.  Dan Strellner, President of Abbe Inc., accepted the honor on behalf of Cindy Kaestner, Director of the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health.  Cindy was honored for her fortitude in meeting the needs of the community, and specifically the needs of those who are living with mental health issues both pre-and post flood.

Though Cindy Kaestner was unable to personally accept this honor, Dan Strellner conveyed Cindy's words.  He talked about the idea that the recovery effort was not a one-person response, but rather the response of committed staff at the Mental Health Center, those who volunteered their time, and those who were dedicated to meeting the needs of all who were affected by the flood.

The evening finished with music and dance.  As always, NAMI Linn County welcomes any and all to attend our events and activities.   Next year we hope to see many more at our annual picnic.
