 Support Groups and Affiliates

NAMI Maine helps start family and peer support groups across the state.  These groups meet weekly or monthly in the evening so that people with mental health or co-occurring substance use conditions and family members have a place to go to receive support.  These groups are led by local volunteers who host the meeting, provide support and education, and a safe place for people to share their stories and get support when they need it.

NAMI support groups also identify local educational needs and bring speakers into the group, as needed, to address those needs.  Support group leaders agree to be available by phone to link new members to the group and to offer support in-between group meetings.  NAMI Maine provides assistance starting a group, funding for group costs, materials, guidelines, and training for running a group.

If you are interested in finding a support group near you or starting a support in your community, please contact Christine Canty Brooks at ccantybrooks@namimaine.org or by calling the office at (207) 622-5767.

If you are interested in forming a group in your community, please let us know!

Our Support Groups and Affiliate Groups are run by volunteers, who give of their personal time, compassion and understanding.  Since our Support Groups are volunteer based, the availability is based on those who facilitate the groups.  These groups are subject to change, so please call for information.

All support groups are considered confidential.  What is said in there, stays in there. Here is a list of support groups in your area:
