SUPPORT GROUPS

Support groups are very helpful for consumers and families that have a mental illness.  It's important that anyone that attends must follow the rules of what is said in the support group stays with the support group and can not be discussed outside the group.  Come join our family.


CONSUMERS-  Support groups for NAMI Ellis County consumers and families meet every Friday at 2:00 pm at Adapt of Texas Inc. and meeting last for one hour.  Adapt of Texas is located at 1311 Ferris Ave. in Waxahachie.  There phone number is 972-935-9700.  These support groups are of great help to consumers and their loved ones.

 


EVENING NAMI SUPPORT GROUP

 

NAMI Ellis County-  There is a support group that meets each Sunday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the home of Waldo & Diane DeCuir at 103 Jolly Way, Waxahachie, Texas.  This support meeting is open to those with a mental disorder, and their loved ones.  E-mail Waldo at decur@sbcglobal.net or call 972-523-6679 for additional information.


DBSA (Navarro County)-  Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, in the library at St. John”s Episcoal Church at 101 N. 14th Street, Corsicana All are welcome to learn and to give and to receive support at the weekly meetings.  On the first Tuesday of each month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, conducts a study of “The Depression Workbook:  A Guide for Living with Depression and Manic Depression”.  For information call 903-872-6302 or 903-874-6815.

DALLAS SUPPORT GROUPS-Conducted by DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT ALLIANCE-These smaller more intimate sessions offer an opportunity to meet and develop friendships with others living with a depressive disorder.  These meetings are valuable to both family members and those who have bipolar & unipolar illness.  These activities are open to all - members and non-members alike (unless otherwise noted).  Please feel free to bring famil members and/or friends.

1st THURSDAY PEER SUPPORT SESSION-7:30-9:00pm- UTSW Medical Center (Enter UTSWMC at Butler Street, off Harry Himes Blvd.  Take first right, then first left into 5-story Parking Garage 1 (Parking is free after 6pm)  Walk across plaza, and go downstairs to entrance A. Enter Bldg. D and turn right .  Follow curve of building to the left until you come to Lecture Hall D1-502, -We offer peer support groups for those who have depression, or bipolar depression, and also a group for family members and friends.  These discussion groups provide the opportunity to learn more about the depressive disorders and an avenue to make a network of friends for mutual support.  After announcements, we will move to rooms 104 & 106 for support sessions.

1st MONDAY COMMUNITY PEER SUPPORT-7:30-8:30pm-Western Heights Christian Church, 3525 Lawler Road @ Jupiter in Garland.  Ms. Kinike Bermudez, facilitaor.

2nd SATURDAY SOCIAL PEER SUPPORT SESSION-6:00-9:00pm-This meeting will take place at the home of Bob and Carol King.  Call 972-709-5464 for directions or additional information.  We hope you will join us.  A meal will be served. The main dish will be furnished so please bring, a vegestable or a salad or a dessert or a bread.  At 7:30pm following our meal and time of visiting, we will have a combined share session.  We encourage you to bring a friend or family member with you to be a part of this special evening.

3rd THURSDAY EDUCATIONAL MEETING-7:30-9:00pm-UTSW MEDICAL CENTER(Enter UTSWMC at Butler Street, off Harry Himes Blvd.  Take first right, then first left into 5-story Parking Garage 1 (Parking is free after 6pm)  Walk across plaza, and go downstairs to entrance A. 4th THURSDAY COMMUNITY PEER SUPPORT SESSION-7:30-9:00pm-
