ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS GROUP: This group provides support & information to parents & direct caregivers (foster parents, adoptive parents, grandparents, etc.) of children & teens up to age 17 who have mental illness or behavioral disorders. Topics will specifically address how dealing with a child with mental illness/behavioral disorders differs from dealing with an adult. There will be an educational component, which often will involve an outside speaker, along with a time for problem-solving issues, & just talking with other parents who understand the daily challenges life with these children presents. No registration is required to attend. NOTE: Due to the nature of the topics, children & teens are NOT allowed to attend the group. Childcare is NOT provided.
NAMI Principles of Support
We will see the individual first, not the illness.
We recognize mental illnesses are brain disorders.
We aim for better coping skills.
We find strength in sharing experiences.
We reject stigma in ourselves and others.
We won't judge anyone's pain as less than our own.
We forgive ourselves and reject guilt.
We embrace humor as healthy.
We accept we cannot resolve all problems.
We expect a better future in a realistic way.
We will never give up hope!
