Oklahoma Resources for Combat Veterans

The information on this website for military veterans includes mental health, substance abuse and prevention resources that are available to Military Veterans and their families. The information is arranged as follows:  

1.       Overview : This link includes presentations from ODMHSAS, the VA and Vet Centers . Topics covered include:

  • Symptoms of PTSD, substance abuse and depression;
  • Community mental health, substance abuse, gambling addiction and suicide prevention resources in Oklahoma ;
  • Risk factors of PTSD, substance abuse, depression and suicide;
  • Extensive information on the unique needs of Global War on Terrorism veterans; and
  • Services available at the VA and Vet Centers , including OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom)/OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) readjustment programs.  

2.       Welcome home (This information was originally compiled into notebooks for post-deployment family reintegration briefings that ODMHSAS assisted with for the Marines and Army National Guard. The title and information will be updated to include pre-deployment information).

  • Extensive information on the expectations of veterans and their communities regarding readjustment;
  • Becoming a Couple Again; and
  • Helping members of the National Guard and Reserve Reenter the Workplace.

3.       Oklahoma Resources. This link includes the following:

  • State maps showing the geographic locations of Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC), satellite offices, CMHC service areas, Inpatient and Crisis Stabilization Units and Substance Abuse Treatment Providers;
  • Address lists of all ODMHSAS service providers;
  • Information on current OEF/OIF support groups (please call to confirm time and location as they may change); and
  • A fact sheet of VA Services for OEF/OIF Veterans in Oklahoma .

4.       Other Resources. This link includes the following:

  • Information on Helping Children Cope During a Deployment, Military Families and Depression, Advancing the Health of the Family Left Behind, Mental Health Needs for Guard and Reservists Returning From War,    Supporting Military Kids and Families, and Addiction Rates and PTSD;
  • Comprehensive information on the Unique Circumstances and Mental Health Impact of the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq;
  • United Through Reading Military Program, which helps military parents read aloud to their children on DVD; and
  • Additional resource lists for Veterans, Families, Children, Teachers and School Counselors and information on Advocacy organizations that assist veterans.
