So nice to see you all

It was a privilege for myself and our staff to meet so many of our supporters September 7th, most of whom we had only spoken with by phone or exchanged e-mails with in the past and in preparation for Walk Day.

NLC’S Strides for Awareness Walk was a great success. There were 16 teams walking for our affiliate -- a wonderful representation of individuals, families, school teachers and mental health workers from Lake County! Through our walkers and sponsorships NLC was able to break all previous walk day turnout and donations.  All in all approximately 165 people turned out raising over $18,000.

We had such beautiful weather --we were blessed with a blue sky and gentle temperature… it was a perfect morning to walk for such a great cause along Mentor’s scenic bike path.  Funds raised will be used to support costs associated with affiliate services and programs. Approximately 11% of our annual budget is derived through fundraising, donations and membership.

Kim Fraser, Executive Director for the Lake County ADAMHS board is a passionate advocate for our mental health community.  Her message was inspiring and her appeal on behalf of individual advocacy and making your ‘voice’ heard moved everyone there.  NLC’S work for advocating on behalf of those suffering from severe mental illnesses and their families is not over, but with our annual walk to raise awareness about mental illness, September 7th was definitely a kick-off for advocacy.

Whether you were there or not there, you must take 5 minutes to view a video recap of our AWESOME morning… NAMI Lake County, helping others and inspiring hope!

Thank you -- every walker, every sponsor, and every volunteer – you helped make September 7, 2013 a day to remember. Carole Jazbec, Executive Director
