Our Mission is to provide advocacy,
education and support for those affected by serious mental illness,
their friends, loved ones, and families with special responsibility to
the Greater Glendale Area.
We Recognize that mental illnesses are
brain disorders, medical conditions from which recovery is possible. The trauma of mental
illness directly impacts the family, friends and loved ones of the
person who has an illness, and these people, too, need help and can play a pivotal supporting role in an
Our Goal is to ensure that every
person who has a mental illness has adequate access to medical care,
medications, therapy, and a supportive community to assist them on
their journey to recovery.
IMPORTANT SUPPORT GROUP
Our Tuesday Evening
Family Support Group will return to its home base of operations, Didi
Hirsch, Glendale, (1540 E Colorado St, Glendale, CA 91205) beginning with the first
meeting in December. Our heartfelt
appreciation and gratitude to the First Presbyterian Church of
Burbank which has sheltered us in our time of need.
Tuesday Family Support will continue to meet at
First Presbyterian (521 E.
Olive Avenue, Burbank, CA 91501) through the end of November.
For family members, loved
ones, and friends of those who have a mental illness: Family Support Group,
Family to Family Education Class, and Basics Education
For persons who have a
mental illness: Connections Support
Group, Peer to Peer Education Class, and In Our Own Voice
In addition to
the above programs, we do community outreach; compile and publish lists
of useful and informative resources; publicize our own and others’
related public events; provide access to regional advocacy and
leadership trainings; chime in on public policy debates; and fight
stigma against those with brain disorders. NAMI Glendale is open to everyone concerned about
the issues of mental illness and the personal and social impacts, and
all our programs are always free.
