NAMI Dakota County

Mental illness, an often isolating illness, affects one in five people.  It affects persons of any age, race religion or socioeconomic status.  It affects the entire family.  Mental illnesses are biological brain disorders and can disrupt a person’s thinking, feelings, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning.  Mental illnesses are treatable medical conditions.  Thanks to research and medical advances in medications and treatment, recovery is possible. Many people feel isolated by mental illness due to the stigma and misinformation surrounding it.  If your life has been touched by mental illness, you are not alone.

We have a commitment to, improving the quality of life for people who suffer with mental illness, erasing the stigma of mental illness, referring families and friends to existing resources, and influencing public policy.

WE WANT YOU... to be informed.  Come to one of our meetings. There is no cost or obligation--just the opportunity for you or your loved one to help and get help!

Meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month, 7:00 p.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 3333 Cliff Road, Burnsville, MN 55337

For more information or to leave NAMI Dakota County a message call Connie Johnson at (952) 432-9278

NAMI Dakota June Education Hour: Mental Health & Law Enforcement - June 10
Police are often the first responders when someone experiences a mental health crisis. When law enforcement gets in involved, it's important to have officers who understand the mental illnesses and how to de-escalate the situation appropriately. The Burnsville Police Department is one  of a growing number of police departments in Minnesota who have formed a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Join us for an engaging panel discussion with two Burnsville CIT officers as well as a parent of two young men who live with mental illnesses. This will be a chance to learn more about the CIT program and how to effectively work with police responding to a mental health crisis. Free and open to all, no registration required.
