The NEW NAMI Dubuque Office is Open!

NAMI Dubuque is proud to announce that our new office is open! It is located in the Schmid Innovation Center at 900 Jackson Street, Suite LL5-2B, Dubuque, Iowa. Our office hours are 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday-Friday. Our phone number is 563-557-NAMI (563-557-6264). Stop in to see us or give us a call. We will be glad to give you information about our NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) meetings and programs. If you miss us during our office hours, your call will be forwarded to a member on the NAMI Dubuque Board.

EDUCATIONAL AND CARE/SHARE MEETINGS

**NOTE** All meetings will now be held in the lower level Millwork Collective area in the Schmid Innovation Center (old CARADCO Building) at 900 Jackson, Dubuque. All meetings are free and open to the public.


FAMILY TO FAMILY EDUCATION COURSE

The next Family to Family Education Course begins Thursday, September 4th, 2014 at 6:30 PM. It is a free series of classes with a class meeting weekly for twelve weeks. The course is structured to help friends and/or family members understand and support individuals with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. Please contact the NAMI Office at 563-557-6462 for more information. Pre-registration is required and the class is limited to 20 persons.

PEER TO PEER EDUCATION COURSE

The next Peer to Peer Education Course begins Thursday, September 4th, 2014 at 6:30 PM. It is a free series of 10 classes that meets weekly for adults living with mental illness. The course provides an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect, understanding, encouragement and hope. Thursday, October 2, 2014 FaithNet Meeting At 7:00 PM at St Luke’s. This event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women’s Group.

NAMI FaithNet is a network of NAMI members and friends dedicated to promoting caring faith communities and promoting the role of faith in recovery for individuals and families affected by mental illness.


Tuesday, October 7, 2014 Care and Share Meeting At 7:00 PM

Two support groups will be available. One group is the Family Support group for family members, caregivers and friends. The other group is the NAMI Connections Support group for people who live with mental illness. The groups are free and are led by experiences facilitators. Come join us!


Thursday, October 9, 2014 6:30 AM – 12:00 PM Mercy sponsored Bake and Craft Sale outside the Mercy Cafeteria.

The proceeds from this event benefit NAMI Dubuque. Please consider baking or crafting an item to sell or make plans to attend and buy a treat or two. Please tell your family and friends.

Tuesday, Ocotober 21, 2014 at 7:00 PM Educational Presentation

We will have an educational event at the Schmid Innovation Center (common area outside the NAMI office). Our guest speaker will be Nathan Duccini, the Community Treatment Coordinator for the Department of Correctional Services. This presentation is for consumers, family members and advocates planning to apply for Social Security Disability or assist someone else in making AN APPLICATION. The speaker will provide information about the different Social Security Programs and the process of applying for benefits. Some tools and tips will be discussed to increase the chance of a positive outcome.
