EDUCATION PROGRAMS DESCRIPTIONS
FAMILY EDUCATION
Family-to-Family,
NAMI's signature family education program,
provides detailed information about the biology of the brain and
family coping skills through a twelve-week course that is offered
at no cost to participants. The curriculum is taught by trained
volunteer family members and focuses on the clinical treatment
of the major mental illnesses and teaches the knowledge
and skills that family members need to cope more effectively.

Understanding Mental Illness
5 week Support/Educational course for families/friends coping with
mental illness in the Family. Covers different diagnoses, including
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for families of veterans,
medication, empathy and communication skills.

Euclid, Oh (exact location to be Announced)
This educational program is for parents and caregivers of
a child or adolescent living with mental illness. They are taught
by trained volunteer family members, and offer information on
mental illness, diagnosis, treatment, coping skills, navigating
the systems, such as public assistance, medical and educational.

PEER EDUCATION
Peer-to-Peer
A 10 week - two hours per week - experiential
education course for any person with serious mental illness who
is interested in establishing and maintaining wellness.
The curriculum is taught by trained “mentors” or peer teachers,
who are themselves experienced at living well with mental illness.
Learn about the major mental illnesses, relapse prevention, stigma,
medications, coping skills and advocacy. The course establishes
recovery as a feasible, supportable goal.

8 week education program for women seeking wellness.
